Lots going on over the last couple of weeks including some promising results on the flat and a very unlucky loser over jumps!
Great to hand a cheque over to the team representing the Air Ambulance from our Owners’ Day. Thanks to everyone who helped us to raise a huge total of £6410.04 especially Emma who put in a lot of work organising prizes and items for the auction. It’s a charity that I’m really keen to support, even though you could strongly argue that it shouldn’t be a charity !
We have been busy tidying things up, the round pen has had some work done on the surface (great tool for lunging the young horses and freshening up those that need it). The Thera Plate has been moved into some purpose built stocks next to the equine spa to make the treatment process much safer and easier (see photo). The outdoor schooling lanes have been set up on the grass, 3 easy fix fences and 3 flights of easy fix hurdles and we have a ditch and another plain fence arriving to be fitted this week. More regular tidying jobs include fogging the barns with disinfectant and steam cleaning the lorries with Steri – 7 to help keep bugs at bay !
SEXY LEGS was a cosy winner of her maiden at Newcastle on the 29th September on her first start for the yard. She was given an intelligent ride by Dougie Costello and it was great to get another winner for EPDS Racing. The syndicate were delighted to have their prize presented by Lee Westwood OBE , making the evening even more special.
A few days on Captain Mowbray put in a great show of jumping at Sedgefield on only his third start over fences. He cruised into contention coming towards the last and just landed a little steeply and knuckled on landing at the back of the last when looking the likely winner. Really gutting for his owners Premier Racing Partnerships however he seems ok (a little sore) and should be back out again soon.
We have taken some horses up to Newcastle for racecourse gallops in preparation for their first runs over jumps, it’s likely that we will have approx. 10 jumpers ready to run before the end of October and I’m really looking forward to seeing some new recruits and seeing how last years team have developed / improved over the summer.
Von Blucher finished second in the Listed Guisborough Stakes at Redcar, he really showed yesterday what he is capable of and I’m sure there is a big one in him for John and Jess Dance, Mary & John Thackray and Vince & Julie Howe. He was given a great ride by the very- much in form PJ McDonald.
