From Aintree to Ascot !

Flat season off to a flying start with 7 winners already on the board and a win / place strike rate of 49%.

Searanger was an impressive winner of the 6f Selling handicap at Catterick under a great ride from Rowan Scott for owners John Dance and ICM Racing. He ran the following week back at catterick under a penalty and finished a very creditable 3rd – he’s in great heart at the moment and quicker ground seems to be the key to him. Hopefully he can continue to progeress through the summer.

Lady Clitico ran a cracking race to win the 2m handicap at Catterick (ridden by Graham Lee). She settled really well and although the pace wasn’t really quick enough to suit, she stayed on gamely to win. Lady C has been purchased by her new owners (The Extra Time Partnership) and will be campaigned both on the flat and over hurdles. I’m sure they are going to have a lot of fun with her.

Our most recent winner was Geordie George at Carlisle (tipped up in the Northern Echo Article as a horse to follow !) I was delighted when the rain came as we have had him entered up in a number of locations and have been unable to run him due to the weather. He’s been in flying form at home so as the ground softened through the day, I really hoped that he would put his best hoof forward. Great for new owners Fletcher, Outhart , Moran & Maddison who have kept the faith in him – hopefully there are many more good days to come in the future.

Exciting times for us all at Howe Hills as VON BLUCHER continues his preparation for Royal Ascot. He is entered in the Royal Hunt Cup & if he gets in , he will be our very first runner at Ascot. He will be ridden by PJ Mcdonald and I couldn’t be happier with the horses’ preparation – his work has been good and he seems in great spirits at the moment. Fingers crossed he gets a run for John & Jess Dance, Mary Thackray and Vince Howe.

A few new horses have joined the yard recently RUNNING IN HEELS (available for lease), ELZAWAY, HOPING HE’S KEAN , DULCE PANEM and VALZAN (arrives early in the week). Great to get some fresh faces and hopefully they will be lucky for us & new connections.

DULCE PANEM (from France , a half share may be available – contact me for details)

Lots still going on at the yard, cleaning , painting and organising ready for the return of the winter horses who are currently out on breaks. I’m actively looking for some young NH horses, most notably at the Land Rover Sale in Ireland and Arqana in France and focusing on quality types who can hopfully take us to some Saturday races.

This week saw the arrival of our new horsebox (constructed by GEM Horseboxes), it’s really smart and has all the latest safety and design features. Our current lorry has been great, but it’s now nearly three years old and has done just over 100,000 miles. My old lorry is now for sale , so if anyone wants a well loved / well travelled 2 stall please get in touch !

This week is fairly quiet with entries at Southwell, Hamilton , Uttoxeter and Aintree – have a great week!
